They noted that a 2011 "Year of the Monkey" article gave the source as "Electronic Games" magazine "a year later", and further dug up a 2004 G4 segment where a Mr. Luckily, the Hardcore Gaming 101 forums already put in some legwork in 2012. Where the hell did this come from? Earlier today I saw somebody quoting it as "Donkey Kong Country proves Americans will put up with mediocre gameplay." and I thought, god damn, time to sort this motherfucker out Considering Miyamoto denied any such sentiments in a 2010 interview with IGN, the mystery deepened. We're all familiar with this quote, but we're equally familiar with the fact nobody's ever provided a source.
